Reading Materials & Resources for The Journal
The student will act as a journalist. Choose one of the three provided articles as the topic for writing a news piece. The students are also encouraged to conduct external research to enhance their essays.
Are reading materials provided?
Yes, we’ll provide all necessary reading materials. Additionally, students are asked to subscribe to The New York Times for $1/week for the duration of The Journal program. Subscriptions can be canceled after the course ends.
When should students start the NYT subscription?
Please subscribe to The New York Times for the duration of the bootcamp.
Is a subscription required for all groups?
Yes, both Goldfish Crew and Shark Squad students must subscribe. Subscriptions can be canceled after the program concludes.
Access issues from China
If you are located in China and face access issues, you may use a VPN. If using a VPN is not an option, please contact us for additional support.
Switching Articles
To select a different article, go to "Assignments" and click "Cancel Assignment."
Access Code Required
If an access code is requested to view an article, please submit a ticket here with a screenshot of the page. We’ll reset your account so you can access all content.
When are articles posted?
Assignments are available one day before they’re due.
Locating articles
Select the day of the week within the portal and choose from the three available topics.
Duration of the on-demand videos
On-demand videos for each of the five categories range from 40-60 minutes, with a total duration of around 2-3 hours.
Are videos optional?
For proficient writers, videos are optional but recommended to boost writing skills.
Concerns about controversial topics
While we offer a variety of themes, it’s challenging to avoid all controversial topics. If this program’s structure does not align with your preferences, we can discuss a refund option.
