Why Writing in STEM Matters

"Most of the fundamental ideas of science are essentially simple, and may, as a rule, be expressed in a language comprehensible to everyone."

- Albert Einstein

Through our bootcamp, your child will be able to develop essential skills for success in STEM:

  • Strengthen Communication Skills: Writing helps students articulate their scientific ideas clearly and persuasively.
  • Boost Critical Thinking: Through writing, students can explore complex scientific concepts, fostering deeper understanding and innovation.
  • Connect Science and Storytelling: Effective scientific writing bridges the gap between technical knowledge and real-world impact, making discoveries accessible to all!

Learn from Double Helix and Letterly

Double Helix and Cosmos are magazines published by the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), an Australian Government agency responsible for scientific research and innovation. Both publications aim to make the world of science accessible to all with an emphasis on clear reporting, stunning images, and tons of room for curiosity.

Double Helix has partnered with Letterly, an education technology tool powered by 1:1 writing instruction, to host this STEM-focused journalism bootcamp. Students will read and write about articles from DoubleHelix, Cosmos, and other scientific sources to conduct research and produce their own written content.

Testimonials

Hear what recent Letterly students have to say about Sprint2College.

fe510c9bfee5965a01c1c7d75373bdb6a2d6ae0d I would like to extend my special thanks to The Journal and Tiffany’s two patient and humorous tutors, who are truly wonderful. Thanks to Letterly, I have seen my child’s potential and learned that interest can indeed grow through perseverance.
fe510c9bfee5965a01c1c7d75373bdb6a2d6ae0d Letterly got me interested in texts that were out of my comfort zone, but I came to enjoy them anyway. If you want to improve your writing and learn more about the structure of it, Letterly is the way to go.
fe510c9bfee5965a01c1c7d75373bdb6a2d6ae0d The Journal improved my information-gathering, descriptive writing, and even creativity skills. The Journal improved the way I think, and also how I solve problems. I look forward to participating in future Letterly events. I hope you do too.
fe510c9bfee5965a01c1c7d75373bdb6a2d6ae0d Before The Journal, I’d always thought writing was a tedious affair, but after a summer of writing an article per day, I found writing to be more enjoyable, and I’ve also improved on my time management skills from the constant flow of writing prompts.
fe510c9bfee5965a01c1c7d75373bdb6a2d6ae0d I really enjoyed the camp! The deadlines really helped with my laziness and gave me a sense of urgency...The articles are well-balanced and I love how we have different topics and articles to choose from. This camp helped me a lot with my vocabulary, flow and structures in writing.
fe510c9bfee5965a01c1c7d75373bdb6a2d6ae0d I cannot believe it, but my phenomenal four weeks here as a staff writer for The Journal have elapsed within the blink of an eye. I still look back on my previous essays and see that I have made vast improvement... This camp has started a new, unforgettable chapter in my life. I have faith that the articles I have written will take me far.

  • How many students will be in the program?

The program is designed to provide personalized attention, with each student working 1-on-1 with their coach. Each student's progress is independent of other students. However, each bootcamp has a limited number of seats to ensure everyone receives adequate support. So please sign up as soon as you can to enroll in the bootcamp that works best with your schedule.

  • The live webinar times don't work for me. Will I have access to the recordings?

Yes, you’ll be able to find the recording of the webinar in your submission portal.

  • Can I choose my coach, or will one be assigned to me?

Coaches are assigned based on their expertise and the student’s specific needs. If you would like to switch your coach for any reason, please notify us, and we will do our best to accommodate you.

  • What is the turnaround time for each round of edits?

Coaches typically provide feedback within 2-3 days of receiving your draft.

  • How do I submit my writing for review?

Essays are submitted through our online submission portal, which is easy to use and accessible at any time.

  • If I don’t finish all the drafts, can I finish later and get my coach to edit them?

Our bootcamp is designed to ensure you complete your drafts within the program's timeframe. We do this to make sure you have a chance to get published!

  • What is your refund policy?

At Letterly, we prioritize our customers' satisfaction and aim to provide a fair and transparent refund policy for our bootcamps.

If you are unable to attend the bootcamp you've signed up for, you are eligible for a full cash refund minus a 10% processing fee, provided the cancellation is made before the webinar starts. To initiate a refund, please contact our customer support team at support@letterly.com with your registration details. Our team will review your request and process the refund within 7 business days. The refunded amount will be credited to the original payment method after deducting the 10% processing fee.
